The Minnesota DNR is currently involved in revising its rules related to Aquatic Plant Management (click for details). The proposed rule changes are well conceived and would greatly enhance long-term ecological integrity and water quality ofMinnesota lakes. Perhaps not surprising though, the proposed rule changes are encountering some loud resistance. In particular, the deceptively named group Minnesotan's for Healthy Lakes is whining and wheedling about property rights. These folks are perhaps well-intentioned but they are certainly willfully ignorant and woefully short-sighted.
At this point in the process, the proposed rules are before an Administrative Law Judge who is expected to issue a formal opinion soon. The DNR is soliciting input through 1 December so I decided to send my thoughts along (here is a pdf of my comments). Here's to hoping the judge does the right thing and approves the rules as drafted.

Thanks Dann. I liked your comments. I sent mine in yesterday, and TNC will be commenting as well.
